Career Research

Provision of health care services is reforming faster compared to other career opportunities. Career opportunities in health care management may include working in departments such as consulting firms, health insurance companies, community disease control centers, clinics, public health departments, mental health organizations, crisis management, health care associations, colleges and research foundations. World class healthcare provision is transforming in terms of where, how and who offers, sponsors and manages the system. It is a highly demanding field that requires individual total commitment, talent and perseverance to cope with the ever demanding tasks. In the words of Brown (2006), the field offers prospects to contribute majorly to developing a community’s health status. It is fulfilling to give back to the community, more so, when you do it with a passion.

According to Trisolini (2002), the aim of conducting this career research is to assess the current situation in health care management, the benefits of implementing management strategies in health services and the opportunities in health care management fields. As a major in Business Management, carrying out this research will enable me to shape my focus and narrow my target on the job market. Health care management field is a competitive one; therefore, one needs to have enough tips and information before venturing in the job market. Presently, approximately 100,000 citizens are absorbed into health care management positions at several managerial ranks, such as chief executive officers, departmental directors, supervisors, general managers, human resource, information systems, medical staff relations, marketing and public relations.

Research conducted by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics indicates that, out of the top 20 rapidly developing careers, eight are in the health care industry. This is a pretty much encouraging statistics meaning I will benefit from the many opportunities in this field. Having worked at different departments in the fields as a Pharmacy Technician, Lead Tax-prep, and as a Clerk, I have gained and nurtured different skills and qualities required in this highly demanding field. I have cultivated communication and interpersonal skills, team leadership, working under the pressure and minimal supervision. Moreover, Trisolini (2002) argues that the benefits of working in the health care management field include, making an impact whether small or big into people’s life, it is self fulfilling to saving lives, serving communities through managing disease outbreaks. Secondly, owing to the soaring demand for health care experts, it leaves health care management as the most rewarding opportunity available plus, the more you are skilled and experienced the higher the perks. Thirdly, the industry does not restrict one to a specific job career, as a matter of fact, there are thousands of other options to be explored as I mentioned earlier. Getting involved in the industry is self fulfilling and exciting, with the rapid and dramatic changes that occur every day leaving us with the need to come up with quick and efficient ways of tackling situations.

The success of the health care industry can only be achieved through proper and effective management. Management offers direction and governing of organizations, making sure that organizations run as they ought to. In my research, I hope to analyze whether healthcare institutions fully implement management policies and how effective they are. My main focus will be the use of ICT in emergency management systems in the health industry. Research and technology development on the use of ICT in the improvement of health care has resulted in various ground-breaking means of connecting the elements of emergency health care systems. For example, the use of Ambulance Service ICT is facilitating the service to be an essential component of the emergency health care system and shift from its previous reflection as a transport service. Calman (1997) recommends that the use of ICT will facilitate easy navigation to an event location. It will also permit paramedics to track events from hand held computers. Further it will enable paramedics to document data basic patient information and relay it to the Ambulance and Emergency department. I will also encourage relaying of tranquil imagery of events to hospitals distress experts.

I hope to discharge my services in this particular field precisely in crisis management or catastrophes; instill my experience in quicker response to managing crisis, such as disease outbreak, floods famine, earthquakes, tsunamis and drought. My main focus is a work with nongovernmental organizations discharging healthcare emergency services in developing countries. In my experience in the pharmaceutical industry I would initiate innovative and faster ways of dispatching medicinal products to war torn countries, ensuring that dispatch of health supplies reaches in time. I am a person with strong values and ethics. I have always been passionate about using my knowledge and skills to impact positively the lives of other people. I am a versatile person with the ability to adapt to any situation seamlessly. In addition, I have a sharp mind with a keen eye for details. This enables me to appreciate and comprehend intricate issues swiftly. My origin coupled with my experience has had a positive impact on my life. I can communicate with people from diverse backgrounds and cope with any situation at the same time. I can evaluate and appreciate various jobs decently.

As a community, life span is improving better than any era in record. Persons who are involved in discharging health care services must be highly trained, experienced and able to take up challenges. Other than the formal training, my dream is to open up a training, management and consultancy firm in crisis management targeting non-governmental organizations working in third world countries. According to Calman (1997), reports indicate that many preventable deaths occur and casualties incurred due to poor crisis management skills in poor countries. For example, a country like Somalia, which has been plunged into terror wars for over two decades, is characterized by poor infrastructure coupled by poor social amenities and lack of a stable government. Healthcare personnel in such countries must rise above these challenges and discharge their services in a proper and effective way. This is only possible through proper training of personnel. Technological advancement in medicine has improved over the past years and research still under to come up with better preventive measures. The important thing is that, discharge of such services properly especially in war torn and calamity vulnerable countries lies in the hands of effectively trained and skilled personnel.

This industry relies upon absolute and precise management systems to systematize its daily functions to an elevated scale of accuracy. A successful running of healthcare system is very important, especially those times when human`s life is in danger. In crisis management it is important to employ and coach personnel to let one organize the responsibilities and duty allocation of every key player. This kind of top notch training is lacking among personnel in crisis management situations. As the healthcare industry progresses it calls for highly skilled and qualified professionals. I hope to establish a firm that would offer management skills, imperceptible structures through which different personnel is in cooperated in an efficient panel. I will focus on training through dispensing influence and accountability to trainees with the aim to encourage correspondence among key players at different ranks and to put into effect liability.
