Determinism explains that everything we do is beyond our control and is mainly determined by other external forces (Thomas, 2012). This theory emphasizes that God is in control of all our activities and we do nothing out of our own will. This theory is not entirely true. Human beings have free will and they purposely know what is right and what is wrong. However, this theory puts in question the argument on the free will of humans and the ability to determine whether an action is right or wrong.
The theory further argues that humans do not have a free will and should not be held accountable for their actions. This is mainly based on the fact that their actions are way beyond their control. This theory does not, however, analyze the ability of human beings to be accountable for their actions. In modern days, this is not true since all humans know what is right and what is wrong depending on the laws and norms in the society they live in. As a result, humans will always know the nature of their actions when thinking whether to do it or not before taking an action.
Personally, I do not agree with this theory, and I believe that humans have free will. The fact that proves that humans have a free will is their ability to make judgments regarding situations and determining if they are right or wrong. This, therefore, proves that humans have a free will and the decisions made are purely out of one’s control. The issue of external control is thus not applicable as one knows the consequences before and after making a decision. Any human being will always be guilty in case they do something wrong. This proves that the free will of humans really exists.
