Ultimate Guide To Fighting Procrastination

Ultimate Guide To Fighting Procrastination

Many people find it hard to start working even when they have lots of things to do. Procrastination is a widespread habit that severely damages productivity.

But there are moments when you have to fight this habit, get motivated and begin working. Use our tips to finally do it!

  • Write quick emails. Use bullet points to write emails quicker and make sure that you clearly get to your point.
  • Have a short walk. Take a few minutes to go outside, get some fresh air and regain focus on your work. Science says that such an action can increase your productivity by 20%!
  • Eliminate interruptions. Have a few hours every day for uninterrupted work. Make sure that you’ll have no emails, no calls, and no chatting. Close your Twitter and Facebook and eliminate all other potential distractions. You’ll get much more work done if you don’t split your attention.
  • Use the Internet to your advantage. Apps like Evernote or Selfcontrol will help you organize your work better and eliminate distractions.
  • Take short breaks. You can’t work non-stop for a long time and need short breaks every now and then. So take them.
  • Prioritize one thing. In the morning, list clear goals for the day. Emphasize the tasks that cause you most stress and have them as number one priority for that day.
  • Motivate yourself. Give yourself a reward for attaining each goal. Let it be something simple but pleasant, like eating an ice-cream for a finished project.
  • Break down large projects. If your task is too big and it overwhelms you, break it down into smaller pieces which you can tackle within a day or two.
  • Find your peak time. Whether it is early morning or late evening, make sure that you work at the time when you’re most productive.
  • Check your email once an hour. You have to agree that checking it every 5 minutes doesn’t make any sense.
  • Try the "10-minutes rule." If a task can be done in no more than 10 minutes, do it immediately and move on.
  • Stay warm. Warm temperature will increase your productivity. But don’t overdo – too much heat will make you slow and sleepy.
  • Remind yourself why. Think and tell yourself why you have to do this task to get motivated here and now.
  • Get enough sleep. After having a good night sleep, you can be more focused and avoid distractions.
  • Have a "done list." In the end of the day, tick all the things you’ve done to assess your efficiency and improve your results.
  • Don’t judge yourself too strictly. Just start doing what you have to do.

With these tips, you’re bound to successfully fight procrastination and increase your productivity to the maximum!
